peace and joy in 2021

It turned out to be an eventful year.

Colin continues to enjoy his employment with Okta. He’s also been able to head back to band practice with the guys.

John got hired on full-time with Buurst in January and then promptly got laid off with the rest of the company in early September.

After nearly 10 years on the Board with Variety - the Children’s Charity of Northern California, John stepped down as President in December. It was time to pass the torch so he could concentrate on career and personal goals.

In March, Colin and John said goodbye to a good friend, James Roddy, and attended his virtual remembrance ceremony in early summer. In July, Colin traveled to Chicago to attend his Uncle Douglas’ Celebration of Life. He caught up with not only his close family but also the extended family on his mother’s side that reside scattered about the Midwest. The next month John and Colin headed out to Oakdale, CA to remember Dana Carstensen’s life, as well. They were able to celebrate all the good memories with family members they hadn’t seen in quite a while.

In September, John visited CO for a briefer-than-normal trip. A hike in Boulder then on to Leadville for some more hiking, an autumn train ride through the aspen trees, and a couple of huffs off of the oxygen bottle they brought along. Two weeks later he visited a friend in Ogden, UT. They rock hounded, visited the Golden Spike National Historic Park, explored a corn maze, and got to check off The Spiral Jetty and the Great Salt Lake from John's bucket list.

Around the same time, Colin flew up to Portland to catch a rare appearance from his older brother who was finally able to travel to the states from Barcelona after two years.

John’s Dad visited San Francisco the beginning of November. Needless to say, many adventures and lots of catching up ensued. They explored Mt. Diablo and Mt. Tam, rode the Narrow-gauge train through the redwoods of Santa Cruz, and spent a day driving through scenic wine country.

The holidays are busy as usual. Thanksgiving was in the city with friends. The umpteenth annual John and Colin Holiday Party Extravaganza was back in full swing this year but smaller than normal due to Omicron. And Christmas will be spent in Oregon with the Daly/Colwell family.

As always, sending love, science, and common sense. Go into the new year doing what’s right...not just for yourself, but for others and for the earth.
